DEBTWORTHY//

I think somewhere between 8:30 this morning and now, I died and went to fashion heaven.

After all, who could beat the deal on these two items from Marc by Marc Jacobs on the Gilt Groupe site?

Seriously, the car payment and car insurance might not be paid this month.

But then again, if I WAS indeed in fashion heaven these items would be free.
(I would have loved to include the prices, but due to not wanting to have a lawsuit on my ass, and the fact that having a membership to Gilt Groupe is the sole reason why I have access to these items, I cannot. That's the advantage of being a member.)

"GILT," FREE//

I just found the best new website for shopping.

Unfortunately, it's a member's only website.

Hailed the "GILT Groupe," (founded by Alexis Maybank & Alexandra Wilkis Wilson) the online fashion store sells designer merchandise for a lot cheaper. And when I say "a lot cheaper," I mean A LOT CHEAPER.

A $6,000 Valentino coat retails at $498.

No wonder it's private.

Contain your jealousy.

"WU,"ING THE FIRST LADY//

Here are two photos taken from last night's event on ABC, showcasing the first dance between the President & First Lady.

Also, a recap of Michelle's ensemble worn Inauguration day, as well as a glimpse at her beautiful gown (designed by Jason Wu, who is only 26 years old!) worn at the Neighborhood Ball.

HISTORY MADE, FASHIONABLY//

I'm very happy with the way the Inauguration went today. It was visually stunning, with the 2 million + people, the American flags attached at the National Mall, the elite of Washington making their entrances.

But what I thought most stunning was Michelle Obama's dress of choice. I also thought it clever of her that she picked a Cuban-born American designer that many of the non-fashion crowd do not particularly know of - Isabel Toledo.

I for one, thought that she would have chosen a more elaborate & glamorous gown. But this one isn't bad at all, in fact, it accomplishes its goal of showing off Michelle's toned and glowing complexion, due to it's bright color contrasted against her skin. Michelle is a beautiful woman in general, but she was very wise in choosing this gown & coat. Although one might think the dress is bland from the picture at right, the material made from the gown is quite interesting and, quite sparkly. And although you aren't able to tell, the dress is visibly layered - with the embellishment on the neckline adding another splash of character to the already simple (but flattering) ensemble.

Praises to the Obama couple and their two beautiful little girls. Your speech at today's event made us believe in the hope that you promised - and this country is already looking forward to a brighter future in these times of dismay.

(Now if only the Corporate office wasn't ridiculous with their internet rules and unblocked media/video so that I'd be able to watch Beyoncé perform at the Inauguration event a couple days ago!)

AND MY FRAGRANCE...DIAMONDS//

I honestly don't know why anyone would say anything bad about this dress - because first, it's Beyoncé (then again, I am a die-hard fan so really, I have nothing bad to say about her period) but also because the dress was created by Elie Saab, who Beyoncé often wears (Elie Saab makes killer dresses).

The dress may look a little TOO form fitting - but Beyoncé has always been known to wear clothing that accentuates her curves - something that many women don't know how to do or, in more cases than not, over-do.

Not only does it give a visual of her amazing physique, but it also gives her a sexy amount of cleavage, enough to a point where she looks comfortable and can flaunt the elements of her female body without trying too hard. The necklace draped around her neck is dazzling (which completely makes sense due to someone of her stature) so both the piece and the dress compliment each other quite nicely.

Again, here we have Beyoncé wearing Elie Saab (straight off the runway, mind you) at the 2008 Grammy's. When comparing the two pictures, Beyoncé looks very volumptuous at the Golden Globes, while looking demure (and somewhat slimmer) at the Grammy's.

Either way, this woman deserves more accolade for her wardrobe options, but instead, according to many blogs and websites, she has continued to make one mistake after the other.

I believe that many people are taking it hard when noticing that Beyoncé is making that transition from your normal run-of-the-mill R&B sensation that is known for rocking skimpy outfits and singing about "bug-a-boos," to a more sophisticated, hollywood glam look.

She'll have your approval soon.

Confessions Of A Shopaholic

"Based on the books "Confessions of a Shopaholic" and "Shopaholic Takes Manhattan" by Sophie Kinsella. Rebecca Bloomwood (Isla Fisher) is a 25 year old who lives with her best friend Suze (Krysten Ritter) in Suze's flat (paying her friend rent that is well below market value), in a trendy part of town. Rebecca has a very boring job writing for a financial magazine. She has a shopping addiction and her crap job doesn't pay enough. Her bills are piling up, so she tries cutting back (complete fiasco), then she tries making more money (another fiasco). Eventually, Becky discovers a story that she is truly invested in. Exposing the story gets the attention of a (male, need I say more?) colleague that she hasn't quite figured out yet. Some drama ensues as she snags the (EXTREMELY hot) guy, and she attempts to pay off her ever-growing debt."

The last person I thought they would pick for a role like this would be Isla Fisher, but when I peeped the television previews, I had a different outtake on the movie.

It just might be funny. :]

I need a boost when it comes to catching movies at the theatre, after all, the last movie I wasted my Christmas gift-certificate on (otherwise known as a FREE TICKET) was the god-awful "The Unborn." I had hopes that Odette Yustman would carry the movie, because after all, she was one of the main characters in "Cloverfield," (a movie that I enjoyed) but unfortunately after 45 minutes I walked out of that mess.

Judging from the few pictures I have seen of the film, they obviously weren't channeling the stylist for "Sex & The City." It looks like they hired Betsey Johnson to coordinate wardrobe choices, lol. (Not like there's anything wrong with her!)

"Confessions of a Shopaholic," will be released on February 13, 2009.

T TIME//

One of my favorite designers, Alexander Wang, has just released his new "T," line!

If you did not know, Alex was this year's recipient of the CFDA award, which granted him $200,000 to invest in his clothing line. Along with that whopping amount, came another honor: the mentoring of a fashion legend, Ms. Diane Von Furstenberg.

After previewing the T line, I was a bit confused. I noticed that many of the pieces are quite simple, but can be used for dress at perhaps, any occasion (sans Golden Globes/award shows), or, in fact, anytime of the day.

Now here comes the confusion.

The T line is based on simplicity. The clothing is of off-white/light pastels, and does not possess much pizzazz to the collection previous to the T line. If you happen to browse his past collections on his website, you will notice that these collections offer very intense design, innovative patterns, and many different colors, and are a far cry from what he has now presented.

So, what in fact, did he spend that money he earned on? Could it be wholly induced into the business part of his namesake (hiring employees, accountants, public relations, insurance, etc) or is he in fact planning to spend this money periodically, first focusing on the T line, and further on down the road, really blowing minds with his talent? Perhaps it's the recession that has hit us and he's being savvy with the times, releasing such a timid and unpredictable line that current and former Wang followers are dazzled by. Has he even received and been granted permission to use these funds? No one will know.

It could even possibly depend on the woman consumer's imagination - maybe Alexander meant to create such a bland piece in order for the consumer to make it much more than it really is - because it really does depend on the person wearing it. (Think facial features, hair styling, accessories, footwear, the magnitude that one attracts, or even the time it is being worn.)

Piecing it together would also be a smart idea - the off-shoulder black tee (I would consider to be a dress as well) pictured could easily make a woman flattering if it were paired with thigh high boots and a few silver bangles.

This could also make for a very easy pajama, as shown here:

The nice thing about Alexander is that he doesn't have to be high & mighty and have millions of dollars in order to be viewed as successful or even be taken seriously.
We will see what is in store for his future soon enough!

TWO DIFFERENT WOMEN//TWO DIFFERENT IDEAS

I do like the Miu Miu label...

But choosing Katie Holmes as model for the newest Spring Campaign?

Not as enticing as you would think...

Then again I'm not too big on the Holmes/Cruise hook-up, or the fact that they think their daughter Suri is the world's best trendsetting mini-adult.
(I believe that position is best left to Kingston Rossdale, thank you very much)

& the whole mother-daughter matching haircuts? Ehhh....PASS.

You know, I honestly liked Katie Holmes when she was Katie Holmes, and making craptacular entertainment like "Teaching Mrs. Tingle," and "Disturbing Behavior." I'm starting to agree with the tabloids that she is this machine that she's made out to be, and that scares me, because I read tabloids for entertainment and laugh about the nonsense they come up with.

I believe she has actually aged (in terms of style) since she's been in this relationship with Tom, after all, the short haircut makes her look a lot older, and the "boyfriend jeans," trend definitely did not work with the flats she often wears. If anything, she looked slouchy, especially with the oversized cardigan. Leave that get up to the professionals.

I'll start believing in you when you take the child and leave Tom. :]

On the other hand, the glamazon known as Victoria Beckham puts on quite a good show with her recent Giorgio Armani underwear ads.

If you've had a bad moment realizing that Miuccia Prada actually wanted Ms. Holmes to star in the campaign, the following images should be a refresher - because as you all know, the hatred (or rather dislike) I have for Ms. Holmes character could very well be the hatred that many people have for this amazing woman. To each his own.
